Lou & Grey, a newly launched women’s fashion label and subsidiary of Ann Taylor Loft, just opened it’s first Chicago location in the Southport Corridor.
This Saturday, April 25, the store held a grand opening celebration from 1-4pm in the afternoon, featuring a workshop in crystal and bead jewelry making with independent maker Mineralogy and delicious bites of course.
The store also features local and independent lines of body care, skincare, candles, and jewelry and is sure to become a lifestyle brand for young women. Lou & Grey clothing has a coastal feel, laid back and beach-inpired, blurring the lines between the East Coast, Southern West Coast, and resort styles of the islands and South Beach.
You can drift away to the Soft. Cozy. Cool. feel of both the clothing and the environment itself, definitely geared to be more of a lifestyle brand, like a sophisticated version of similar beach and surf lines. Some of the independent makers include: Town & Anchor, which I recently met at Dose, MCMC, Joya Studio, Delusions of Grandeur, and Olio Naturals.
During the grand opening, guests made custom jewelry pieces by independent makers Mineralogy, and I had a chance to make a matching bracelet and set of dangling earrings. I tossed on a few of the clothes, like a grey maxi dress, floor length and super soft material.
When I stepped out of the fitting room, another customers suggests “Look, another model. This dress just keeps on giving” noting a warm reception to the brand.
It’s purpose, “When we designed this collection, we had a certain girl in mind. She’s a free spirit who floats in and out of every situation with ease. Someone who’s aware of her surroundings yet still makes time for daydreaming. When she loves something, she holds onto it forever. She likes to look, listen, touch, feel…discover. If she stumbles, a smile is never far behind. She’s a beautiful mix of contradictions.”
